The wide diagonal composition keeps the thermal bath clear in the foreground while muddy water surges through a collapsed exterior wall behind it. A much larger second wall of brown floodwater approaches from the valley, its high foaming crest illuminated by branching lightning and filled with uprooted limbs, broken timber, stones and debris. The first current already tears through railings and damaged flooring around tilted cedar pillars. Water overflows from the pool while a carved outlet continues feeding it. Soaked tatami, shattered screens, buckets, stools and sandals cover the wet floor. Torrential rain, cold blue storm light, weak amber lanterns, spray, mist and steam create an epic cinematic anime scene suspended moments before the next devastating impact.
