A tall vertical composition. In the middle of the frame, an old three-masted wooden sailing vessel sits upright on the snowy summit of a jagged mountain, its hull resting in deep snow and its sails furled on the yards. A long anchor chain runs from its bow down the snowy ridge to an iron anchor half-buried in the snow. At the bottom of the frame, a rope team of climbers works up the ridge toward it: one climber in front, a second behind the first, and a third at the back, each tiny against the mountain. Above the vessel, a pale sky with a low sun and two small birds. A linocut relief print: bold black carved shapes on off-white paper, with rough gouge marks, chunky parallel cutting lines for shading and texture, and a single flat color of red printed only in the climbers' jackets and the vessel's flag.
