illuminatedmalefable Caption: This image is an original illuminated manuscript miniature on a warm parchment page. Two clearly adult men aged 22 and 24 cut wheat with sickles in a golden field beneath a castle on a hill. Flat opaque areas of lapis blue, red, green and gold leaf, fine ink contours and slender stylized figures give it a painted manuscript look, with a decorated border of vines. Every man shown is an adult aged 21 to 24 with adult proportions, a clean-shaven face and a slim build.
