vtxcosymarkers, A tiny field mouse conducts a grand choir of four enormous sleeping cats from the top of a matchbox. The cats' open mouths and rising chests suggest a perfectly synchronized chorus of snores; the mouse flourishes a sewing needle baton with extravagant dignity. Arrange the soft feline faces in a descending semicircle around the little conductor, whose dramatic red scarf provides the only vivid color. One cat has opened a suspicious eye directly toward the mouse. A low frontal composition turns a cozy laundry basket into an opera stage. Thick pastel and gouache on dark paper, luminous cream fur, plum shadows and expressive simplified gestures, with the comedy carried entirely by scale and solemnity.
