Can we do something about "image cycle" GIF thumbnails?

It's not that I don't like these, actually I like them a lot since you get a glimpse of several images from the model in one go. But when one of these pops up during my browsing it TANKS my old quad core CPU... Is there some way this could be improved web-side, or is this entirely my CPU's fault?

I'd say a single animated gif shouldn't bring the system to its knees in this day and age (as one who's been through every major windows release since 3.11).

However, you might like to disable gifs browser side via an extension (you can still download the images and play them locally, if that's less of an issue): https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gif-blocker/ahkidgegbmbnggcnmejhobepkaphkfhl

Personally, I haven't encountered any particular lag from the gifs on this site.
