We have hoped to see all checkpoints available in the generator for a long time, and recently, Civitai has indicated that this might be possible soon. There are a few changes needed to accommodate this new situation, particularly to allow better control for creators and better integration with Early Access.
Currently, Civitai manually controls all checkpoints in the on-site generator, and it is limited to around 150 checkpoints. The only option creators have to block a model’s usage in the generator is found in the model settings under "Use on Civitai generation service"—which can only be turned on or off for the entire model, across all versions.
When Civitai allows all models to be used in the on-site generator, there needs to be a new option for creators to control which versions are available in the generator. A creator might not want certain versions to be used in the generator while allowing others.
This option is also crucial for Early Access—in my opinion, during Early Access, only the latest Early Access version should be in the generator by default for new users, so that older versions aren’t available for free to those who haven’t paid for Early Access.
If someone purchases Early Access to version 1, but the model later enters Early Access for version 2, then:
Users who bought version 1 should still have access to use it in the generator.
Users who haven't purchased any version should only have access to version 2 in the generator and would need to buy Early Access to use it.
These changes are essential to ensure Early Access remains a viable way for creators to be supported effectively. I understand the need to keep things simple, but Early Access is a critical feature that requires special attention. Fortunately, the changes required aren't very large and could be implemented efficiently.
This feature was suggested to Civitai via the official feature request system, but some features are just never reviewed and never become public. This is important feature that requires Civitai attention, that's why I publish it as an article.
