i found my love for ai-generated images here on civitai, and that won’t change. but this is where i’m ending my involvement. the reason is simple: the platform seems to only move in one direction — downhill. image generation is getting worse, image display is getting worse, the filter system has always been a disaster, and there’s zero communication. it feels like there’s no real interest in improvement. the dev team seems overwhelmed and keeps making one bad decision after another. not my business — but i don’t have to waste my time supporting a mess like this.
i honestly believe civitai could be something great. and it’s amazing how much the community here contributes. but in the end, nobody really gets anything back. you created an amazing lora? too bad it’ll just disappear, thanks to a broken filtering system — and because 70% of users keep using the same loras anyway. you worked hard on a checkpoint merge? now you even have to pay to publish it. lol. sorry. that’s how you drive people away.
you love making images and you’re good at it? then you better create 20 accounts to push your own content — otherwise, no one will see your work, and you’ll have zero chance of getting anywhere near the top. i’ve reported so many cheaters already. just look at the top 100 on this leaderboard — it’s full of them. many users are clearly boosting themselves with bots. and to some extent, i get it — because civitai barely does anything about it. the whole system for publishing images is just broken. i’d say 80% of engagement ends up on “most reactions of the day.” hardly anyone really cares about other people’s work; you just blindly throw out likes. civitai could fix this — but they don’t. and seriously: who enjoys scrolling through a gallery of 20 nearly identical, low-effort images? exactly — no one.
i’ve made suggestions for improving things. probably never even got read. i don’t know how many tickets i’ve opened about obvious cheating. some were closed. most weren’t. and honestly, i feel like i’m the only one who actually cares. i know other platforms have flaws too — but they’re not this easy to exploit.
and it just hurts to see hundreds of images every day that are genuinely good — maybe not perfect, but deserving of at least a like. and they get nothing. because all the attention goes to people who act like they’re the best while being selfish and, frankly, pathetic.
so yeah, sorry — i don’t know if you even understand your own system, but you’re just chasing the carrot on a stick. this community should be built on collaboration between creators and generators. everyone should have a place here. but no one seems to care anymore.
