Effective July 31, 2025, Stable Diffusion creator Stability AI has updated its Acceptable Use Policy, introducing new restrictions on how their models can be used - including a prohibition on the generation of sexually explicit content. This change has understandably caused frustration and debate within the community.
We have been working right up to the deadline to find solutions that minimize disruption and protect as much content as possible. However, in order to remain compliant, we must now take immediate action.
As of July 30th:
Stability AI Core Models will no longer be available for use in the Civitai Generator.
All images rated R+ and created with Stability AI Core Models or their derivatives will be removed from the platform, affecting fewer than 6,000 images in total.
Non-compliant images will be ToS'ed (automatically removed from public view), and will still be accessible to the uploader for 7 days, for download.
563 resources - including LoRAs, merges, and other derivatives based on the Stability AI Core Models - will no longer be available for use in the Civitai Generator, though they have historically seen very limited use. These models will still be available for download.
New R+ content generated with these models will not be allowed on Civitai.

What’s not Changing

We’ll continue to advocate for creative freedom while navigating these changes, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we adapt.
