🧐 Why This Article?
If you're a regular Civitai user, you’ve probably seen “Advanced Mode” tucked away in the settings — and assumed most people already know what it does. I did too… until I searched for a proper explanation and found almost nothing.
So I decided to write the article I wish I’d found:
A clear, practical guide to what Advanced Mode really is, how to enable it, and why it matters — especially if you use LoRAs.
🔧 What Is Advanced Mode on Civitai?
Take control of your model and LoRA combinations
At its core, Advanced Mode is a feature that lets you override the default behavior of how Civitai pairs LoRAs and other resources with base models (like SDXL/Pony/Illustrious).
Normally, Civitai tries to match things for you. Advanced Mode gives you manual control, allowing for deeper customization and creative experimentation.
🛠️ How to Enable Advanced Mode
You can turn it on in your account settings:
Go to Account Settings (top-right profile icon)
Search Generation Settings
Check the box for Advanced Mode
Save your changes (Maybe automatically)

Once enabled, the generation UI will give you extra control — including the ability to set the intended base model for each LoRA you load.
💡 What Does It Actually Do?
In standard mode, Civitai attempts to auto-match LoRAs to your selected base model.
With Advanced Mode, we can force unconventional combinations (e.g., using a Pony LoRA on Illustrious)
⚠️ A Word of Warning (from Civitai’s official disclaimer)
Model Compatibility
Some resources work well together, while others may produce unexpected or lower-quality results.
Enabling Advanced Mode lets you freely combine resources, but:
Results may vary, and quality is not guaranteed.
Refunds won't be given for poor results caused by incompatible resources.
In other words:
💥 You break it, you bought it.
But that’s also what makes this mode so powerful.
🧪 Final Thoughts: Experimental Mode, Creative Power
Think of Advanced Mode as Civitai’s sandbox mode.
It removes the training wheels, but gives you a much broader playground.
Whether you're trying to fix a broken LoRA setup, or deliberately mix incompatible parts for an artistic glitch — Advanced Mode is your key to unlocking deeper customization.
💬 Got Your Own Results?
Have you discovered something cool (or chaotic) using Advanced Mode?
Post your generations, tips, or combinations — I’d love to see how others are pushing this feature to its limits.
🙌 By the way...
Somehow — and I honestly didn't notice until just now — I’ve passed 1,000 followers here on Civitai.
That’s kinda wild.
Big thanks to everyone who's followed, commented, or even just peeked at my work. I appreciate every single one of you. 🖤
Here’s to more experiments, more chaos, and more happy accidents.
