Hey friends, this is a post with some of my thoughts and feelings.
My journey in generative art began with a humble GTX 970 with 4GB of VRAM. Back then, I was so happy just to be able to generate images on SD1.5 models. It was painfully slow, but honestly—I was thrilled just to create, to turn my ideas into something visible. Very quickly, I realized I wanted more than just generating pictures. I wanted to dive deeper, to actually contribute to the development of generative models and the community around them.
At that time, I started experimenting with LoRA models for SD1.5. When I made my very first model (“Body Aesthetic,” focused on stylized feminine figures), I was blown away by the possibilities opening up for me. From there, I just kept pushing myself—reading papers, trying different approaches, learning as much as I could.
But of course, the community never stands still. Newer and better models kept coming out, especially SDXL, and every time I looked at them I was like 😍 drooling, wishing I could run them properly. Eventually, I worked overtime at my day job (as a designer) and managed to buy myself a 4060 8GB. It felt like a huge step forward—a noticeable performance boost.
Reality check though: when running SDXL, it was almost the same speed as my old GTX 970 was with SD1.5. Still usable, but far from ideal. It lets me test my LoRA models (which I often train on paid online platforms—thank you to those services 🙏), but generation is slow and sometimes unreliable.
And now… it’s getting worse. My 4060 8GB freezes my entire PC during generation more and more often. Every time it happens, my heart freezes with it. 😅 It’s stressful, and it’s hard to stay creative when I’m constantly worried that my GPU might just give up one day.
That’s why I’ve been eyeing the 5060 Ti 16GB. Part of me thinks: maybe this is the solution. At least enough VRAM and stability to keep going without so much fear. But another part of me worries… what if it’s not the leap I’m hoping for? What if I spend all that money and still feel disappointed?
Right now, it costs $600+, and I’m pretty sure the price will drop soon—but do I really have the time to wait?
So here I am, stuck in-between: should I take the plunge now, or should I wait, save up, and aim for something more powerful and future-proof?
If anyone here has actual experience with the 5060 Ti 16GB, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
And if you enjoy my work or just want to support me—whether financially on Boosty or simply through comments, reactions, or even just moral support—it truly means a lot. ❤️
UPD: 28.08.2025 - Today, the price dropped to $520
