MaPic – Image Viewer with AI Metadata Reader

Note: MaPic2 has moved to a new location and continues as MaPic, now without a version number. The program now features automatic update checks, always suggesting the latest version. Although the program continues under the name MaPic.

🔍 Upgrade MaPic 2.4

The latest release of MaPic introduces built-in automatic update notifications, now offered as a versionless edition for smoother updates. With this change, MaPic2 will be discontinued, and all future development will continue under the simple name MaPic.
In addition to the automatic update feature, this version also allows image navigation using the mouse wheel — available optionally for your convenience.

🔍 Upgrade MaPic 2.2

I added copy-to-clipboard icons next to the "Positive" and "Negative Prompt", and next to the "Seed".

Hi everyone,

As a beginner, it’s really easy to get lost in all the unknown terms and endless parameters. Especially without strong English skills – there are plenty of tutorial videos out there, but they’re not always easy to follow.

While testing and experimenting with different models, I often ran into the same issue:
"Oh no, I forgot to update the prefix to the new model name!"

For me, it became a daily routine to go back and check why one image turned out great and another didn’t. But of course, I couldn’t find any image viewer that displayed the metadata – things like which model and sampler were used, or what the exact prompt was.

At first, my only solution was using ExifTool to dig out the metadata. It works, but it’s messy and hard to read. So my very first coding project was to extract only the useful data in a clean, readable format – without all the extra clutter. In the beginning, I could only view this in the terminal, later I wrote the metadata into a text file for each image. But that was still inconvenient: opening a separate .txt file every time, and of course new images didn’t have one yet...

That’s when the idea came: why not build my own image viewer?
One that shows the image itself, and right next to it all the metadata I care about – easy to read, easy to copy. So I wrote a python program that displays the images with the Meta data used.

Until recently, Mapic only displayed one image at a time, but going through hundreds of pictures was slow.

So I decided to add a thumbnail mode!

Now, when you click on any image, the viewer switches into a thumbnail grid, showing all the images in that folder at once. You can select any image to jump back into full view instantly.

On startup, the app caches thumbnails automatically — this can take a few seconds if you have hundreds of images, but you’ll see a small progress indicator in the top-right corner while it’s working.

🔍 What’s New in the Final Build 2.0

Improved metadata parser

  • Reads LoRA info from both UserComment and embedded JSON fields (extraMetadata)

  • Detects <lora:Name:0.7> format in positive prompts

  • Supports lists of multiple LoRAs with strength values

  • Handles malformed or missing EXIF data safely

and added icon. Please save it under a different name in the file MaPic.ico - there will be an icon in the op.system window and taskbar... ;)

New features in Mapic 1.8:

One-click thumbnail view

Smart thumbnail caching

Progress display during cache build

Smooth transition between full and grid view

Since I think it turned out quite well, I’d like to share it with you all – maybe you’ll also find it useful.

Mapic is still a personal side project, but it’s already proving useful for managing large AI art folders efficiently.

I’ll post more updates soon — and if you have ideas or feature requests, I’d love to hear them! 💬

Thanks for reading, and happy creating! 🙌
