3D Models are here: browse, generate, animate

We've been quietly building something new, and today we're pulling back the curtain. Civitai now has a dedicated home for 3D, from a full browse section to text and image driven 3D generation that runs right inside the generator you already use.

A new 3D Models section

There's a new 3D Models tab in the browse nav. It works the way the rest of the site does: an infinite feed of community creations, detail pages with an interactive viewer, reviews, comments, reactions, tips, collections, and tags. Everything you'd expect from a first-class content type, purpose-built for 3D.

Every model renders live in your browser. Spin it, zoom it, inspect it from any angle, then pop it full-screen when you want a closer look. No plugins, no downloads required to preview.

Turn any angle back into an image

Here's where it gets fun. Right inside the viewer there's a Generate with this image button. Pose the model to the exact angle you want, hit the button, and we capture that view and drop it straight into the image generator as a reference. From there you can restyle it, drop it into a new scene, or push it in a whole new direction with any of our image models.

It closes the loop: turn an image into a 3D model, pose it however you like, then generate brand new images from any angle. Your 3D model becomes a reusable, poseable reference for everything else you make.

Generate 3D with PolyGen

The headline is generation. We've added PolyGen (powered by Meshy) as a new ecosystem in the generator, and it does two things:

  • Text to 3D - describe what you want and get a textured mesh back.

  • Image to 3D - feed it a reference image and get a matching 3D model. You can send any image you've already generated on Civitai straight into image-to-3D with one click.

You get real control over the output:

  • Polycount up to 300k, so you can dial detail against performance.

  • Topology as quads or triangles.

  • PBR textures with an optional texture prompt to steer the look.

  • Symmetry control for clean, balanced results.

  • Animate - flip one toggle and your model comes back rigged and animated, ready to move.

Formats

Models render in-browser as GLB. When you're ready to take one into your own pipeline, download it in the format you need - GLB and FBX with more to come as adoption increases.

What's next

This is a generation-first launch. We started with creating and browsing 3D, and we're building outward from there. User uploaded models, additional 3D model creation models, and more are on the roadmap. Go make something.
