Civitai used to be a great place for the Open Weight AI community.
But gradually things got worse, starting with the "generation only" privilege which already triggered a good deal of people to leave.
Many small and bigger steps followed pushing the site more towards monetization and gamification instead of encouraging people to build resources for the community.
Now I know running a platform like Civitai isn’t easy, and neither is it free. Knowing this made me tolerate the steps taken so far.
But with the new Creator Economy Update you are pushing it too far, way too far.
A great day for all the creators who want to aggressively monetize their content, all good, I have no grudge against you. And I have no grudge against Civitai as a company that is probably just trying to survive in a difficult environment.
But this is no longer the right place for me, so I deleted all my models. Sorry for the inconvenience this causes, especially for the people who can only use the Civitai generator, but please respect my decision and do not re-upload them to Civitai.
Newer models will be released on Huggingface and some older models may be re-uploaded step-by-step when I have time, there too. I know HF search features are pretty bad, there are no real model galleries, little chance for users to engage with the creator. But regardless it’s the only site that represents the Open Weight AI Spirit somewhat believable.
I may occasionally still post images here on Civitai, but no more models.
