Thought I would gauge what everyone thinks about this.
I recently read this article over on IGN because I had to go into the office and got pretty bored. https://www.ign.com/articles/wizards-of-the-coast-confirms-ai-components-were-used-in-magic-the-gathering-marketing-artwork.
So it turns out well know fantasy card game publisher Wizards of the Coast have been "outed" for using AI Art in promotional materials for Magic: The Gathering. They seemingly denied it at first, but now are admitting that AI components were used in the making of the ads.
I find this interesting and I wanted to know what you guys think about this as my fellow AI Brethren.
Do you think this will open the floodgates for more companies using AI. I'm sure some already are secretly or otherwise. I have seen AI generated posters in games like High On LIfe. Adobe is advertising the crap out of their Generative AI with Photoshop, trying to strike while the iron is hot.
It looks like its just the backgrounds that were generated using AI, do you think they used Stable Diffusion or something else.
What do you think of the art, who thinks they could have done better? What exactly gives it away as AI generated. As someone who has been drawing since the age of 4, I personally think there is no going back despite the outcry by many artists. I remember when I first learned about digital art in my teens and I scoffed at it like I was better than those degenerates that use a computers with Corel Painter and Photoshop, disgusting! How dare the sully my art-form, I went to art school Gosh Nabbit! How silly I was.
Technology is changing so rapidly, but not in the way we originally foresaw. We don't have flying cars or 1st class tickets to space (not yet anyways). Instead we have complicated computers in the palm of our hands and an Information Super Highway (The internet for those who may be young).
AI is just a natural progression , a beautiful marriage of ART and SCIENCE , and it will continue to evolve the world around us in both scary and wonderful ways.
