Conclusion

I'm not going to sugarcoat it - I've been skeptical of AI music in the past. But, with my partner being sick and me being bored out of my mind, I decided to take the plunge and experiment with it. And, let me tell you, it's been an interesting ride.

The Limitations of AI Music

One thing I've noticed is that AI music is only reasonably good at creating music that's over-polished and semi-computer generated. It's not great at creating music from before 1980, and I've gotten some pretty hilarious results trying to get it to create 1960s-style music. Think country, poorly made Kmart tapes, or McDonald's Polish fusion - yeah, it's been a wild ride.

The Exception: Swing-Jazz

However, I did find that AI music is surprisingly good at creating swing-jazz music, which has had a resurgence in popularity in recent years thanks to genres like ska and electro swing.

My Experience with AI Music

I've been playing around with AI music tools, and I have to say, it's been a lot of fun. I've created some ridiculous songs, including ones about lactose intolerance and getting off my lawn. I'm even working on a YouTube video with a funky Midjourney wallpaper I created.

Releasing AI Music Commercially?

As for releasing any of this music commercially, I'm not ruling it out. But, I do want to task my audience with giving me some dumb ideas for generated lyrics and genre mashups. I've always been someone who likes to mix and match different ideas, and AI music is no exception.
