Lore: Back in the 1800s portals to hell were discovered, this lead to demons and humanity cohabiting and existing in the same realm. Various portals, with tunnels and road/transport links being built, resulting in trade and travel between these two realms.
While turbulent sometimes, including a war between hell and the British empire - Britain lost because muskets can’t compete with demonic machine guns - the existence of demons on earth and humans in hell is a common site. Earth companies trade in hell and likewise back.
Reality: I just wanted an excuse to make demons, but the entire concept is something that I cannot pass up. This is more an exploration into me using AI tools, photo bashing and letting my own brain canon explode into something cool.
I am a satanist and I do believe in hell and know I will end up there, this is just a bit of fun and what I hope hell will be like.
Demons in general - Look, act and seem a lot like humans, they have red skin with goat horns and black hair. They can range in shape, size and looks.
They don’t have tails, largely because they just look kinda weird and out of scope of the project.
There is a variety in personality much like humans, some are assholes with others are cool and nice. They share a lot of similarities between humans and people. LGBTQ+ demons exist and are treated fairly, largely because the last bigoted demons were murdered with battle axes and spears.
Tattoos and piercings are common, for women this includes face piercings (noise, lip but also literally on the face), this is seen as a sign of wealth and beauty. Hair can be cut into a variety of styles, shorter styles are more common for men than women much like humans, all demon hair is black since birth but can be dyed. Plastic surgery also exists.
Age wise, demons live for thousands of years, I don’t really know what else to say they do have age cycles, however with babies, children and old age demons existing. The majority of demons that would be considered in their 40s today were alive in Victorian times…
I have not really thought about names yet.
Nudity isn’t taboo in hell, so some demons might choose to go naked. This usually happens in the summer, (hell does have seasons), it’s not frowned upon or illegal but also not common.
(I have also toyed with the idea of different skin colours, such as a black demon but I have been unable to really get that to work and I am also concerned that it might come across as racist)
Demon females:
Can range in body styles and types much like humans can, some are fat and small while others are skinny and tall, etc.
The majority of female demons have black hair, however some dye it, blonde but also different colours such as pink and green, etc.
As I have said, tattoos are popular but also ‘face piercings’ - these are piercings often applied to the face in locations such as the forehead, cheeks and other locations. They can be taken out, leaving a small hole which usually heels in a few days, these are often used as a sign of wealth and common among elites and wealthy, especially those who think of themselves as royal. Gothic styled jewellery is also popular, usually black. This includes stuff like chains, etc.
Clothing wise, it’s a lot like earth. Black and other demonic styled clothing however is more popular, including goth clothing and just more edgy clothing. Black is commonly worn, but they aren’t limited to just that. Sports jerseys are also popular, basketball and hockey, sometimes from teams that have a devil or demon theme.
Demons male:
Much like the female demons, they have variety in body styles and types, they still have red skin, goat horns and black hair.
They can grow facial hair, a popular choice is just having a beard with no moustache. Tattoos are popular, piercings less so, body builders and working out also happens much like real life.
Clothing can vary once again, black and red is popular as is sports jerseys and other clothing, the key again is like human clothing. Might have a gun holster, usually a revolver or pistol, since open and concealed carry is legal in hell.
Imps:
Imps also exist, these are smaller stereotypical imps, they look like smaller, slightly fat demons with more grotesque features, I haven’t thought much about them but do plan on creating an entire underground subculture of imps.
They can and do serve jobs, much like their demon counterparts, they also have their own political party and various other things.
About Children:
Demons children do exist, but I don’t really want to elaborate much on them as I don’t really feel comfortable doing so.
Humans:
Humans also live in hell and vice versa, it’s not an uncommon sight snd humans are treated as equal as demons by the majority of demons.
Areas:
As hell is essentially earth, a lot of locations can be summed up as real locations. However there are differences such as red skys, red natural grass, various creatures and insects and other things.
Hell gates (official) - these are large tunnels, some have lanes for cars with others provide transport by train, they are also freight hubs with border controls. The portal is in the tunnel, it’s like a country border.
Royalty/royal areas - High class, royal locations are a lot like royal locations in Europe, this includes ancient ornate statues, paintings and other things, well manicured lawns with green grass and medieval plants. Armed guards.
Political - More utilitarian, can be described like places such as Washington DC or the Houses of Parliament in the UK. High class cars, demons in suits, etc Armed guards and heavy police presence.
Business/shopping - High class, usually clean streets, demons shopping or going to work etc, posh cars and taxis, buses, high class shops with offices above the, skyscrapers where most of the demonic companies exist.
Old hell - This is old hell, it can be summed up as old areas of Italian or Spanish city and are treated as such, these locations are popular for tourists. Shops such as old book stores, tobacconists and restaurants dot along a cobbble street, a carpark on one corner provides parking, next to a river or stream.
High class housing - Suburban, out of the city, semi-big houses, McMansions, cars parked on drives such as range rovers, BMW’s, etc. Majority owned by family’s and older people, grass is green due to imported grass seed.
Middle class housing - Suburban or semi-suburban, smaller but still big houses, houses with drives with cars parked on them, front gardens, the majority are owned by families,
Low class housing - the “rough” area, small houses, trash around, terraced housing or apartments, issues with crime and gangs, cars parked in the street, some vandalised.
Trash heap - Landfill, it’s a trash pile that is being compacted or burnt, wild animals live in the area, such as demonic boars, etc. Often used in crime when dumping bodies, there are demons and imps that live here, it’s also often used as a way to make money by scavenging for useful stuff.
Shanty town - Imp shanty town, in a former park, ramshack buildings and trash, open fires and livestock - hell live stock - around, occasionally there is an old ancient truck or a market area. Lots of trash and waste but also clearly cleaned up.
Toxic blood lakes - Lakes of blood that have went bad, demonic massive bloodsucking insects, bizarre creatures and other demonic things roam around, along with occasional patrol by security forces. Protected by a huge wall and turrets, entry is illegal.
Wild hell - Wild hell, much like wild locations on earth, there is wild hellish creatures, insects and plants, cryptids creatures and abandoned buildings exist, along with isolated communities and tribes, plus trails, like the rural Appalachia in terms of location and theme, meth labs
Hell portals (Unofficial) - these are portals to hell that are unofficial, they don’t have regulation or really anything border control wise and are often out of the way, it’s illegal to enter them but due to their location it’s not really common for people to get into trouble, usually in sewers or other tunnels, ancient doorways, etc
Cars and transport:
Cars can vary, the more wealthy and older demons prefer luxury cars ranging from the 1920s up to today, most are driven around in. The more elite modify their cars to be more luxurious. This can include stretch limos of vehicles like Ferraris or Lamborghinis.
Cars are imported, these range anywhere from a cheap Ford Fiesta to a Lamborghini, much like earth. German models are popular, JDM cars are also common and American muscle cars are also valued (cough dodge demon cough).
Public transport does exist, trains and buses, these can be found leading into cities. Aeroplanes and boats do also exist, I haven’t thought much about them however.
Crime: Crime is a thing, it’s not a free for all, gangs and crime groups do exist. Petty crimes such as littering, running red lights or drug paraphernalia often results in fines.
More serious crimes such as arson, murder and criminal enterprise crimes results in going to hell prison, which isn’t very nice.
Sex work isn’t a crime in hell, as it shouldn’t be in real life, there is a red light district.
Gangs exist, from small street gangs up to the hell mafia. Biker gangs, cholos and fake wannabe gangsters, etc. They fight over territory and often are “gangs of hats” - aka dressing up in a particular style or look.
