Creator Compensation: Generator Update

Creator Compensation: Generator Update

Today we’re pleased to announce that 25% of all Buzz spent on the generator now goes to the creators of resources used during generation. This comes ahead of the new Early Access system and the opening of the Creator Program to allow creators to sell their Buzz back to Civitai for real money both of which will be following shortly.

As part of this, we’re also introducing a tipping system inside the generator. While creating, you can choose to pay extra Buzz directly to creators of the resource(s) you’re using. The default tip amount is 25% but you can adjust it as high or low as you want, and we'll remember your preference.

Does this mean generation will cost more?

No. This is purely a way for Civitai to fairly share the Buzz spent within the generator. Tipping is optional and can be turned off by clicking the (i) next to the price to adjust your tip and see a breakdown of the generation cost.

Who gets to participate?

Anyone whose created a resource hosted on the site that's available for generation.

How is the 25% Creator Compensation distributed?

We’ve structured the breakdown of the 25% to be as fair as possible taking into account the importance of resources used during generation.

25% of the total distribution goes to the checkpoint used, and the remaining 75% is divided among all resources used in generation.

For example, if an image costs 16 Buzz to create and uses DreamShaper as its checkpoint, Studio Ghibli Style as its first LoRA and Detail Slider as its second LoRA, the break down would be as follows:

  • Total distribution = 4 Buzz

  • Checkpoint gets 25% = 1 Buzz to DreamShaper

  • All resources get 75% = 1 Buzz to DreamShaper, 1 Buzz to Ghibli, 1 Buzz to Detail Slider

Final totals:

  • Dreamshaper: 2 Buzz

  • Ghibli: 1 Buzz

  • Detail Slider: 1 Buzz

How are the Tips distributed?

If the individual making the image had chosen to include a tip its distributed evenly across all resources. For example, the same request mentioned above included a 25% tip, that'd be 4 Buzz that would then get divided evenly among the resources:

  • Dreamshaper: 1.33 Buzz

  • Ghibli: 1.33 Buzz

  • Detail Slider: 1.33 Buzz

How do you handle distributions <1 Buzz?

Distributions are paid out to creators on a 24 hour basis. Buzz accumulates each day and the total is rounded to the nearest whole Buzz number prior to being added to the creator's account.
