New York in the early 1990s was a city in crisis: rising deaths from the AIDS and crack epidemics, race riots, economic recession, record highs for violent crime and unemployment. The Midtown district around Times Square and 42nd Street became an emblem of the city's decline - the elegant theatres and Art Deco cinemas reduced to hosting peep shows and XXX movies.
This model has been trained on photographs of these declining Midtown buildings from the early 1990s, capturing the tawdry décor, shuttered shopfronts and neon-soaked seediness of the period.
Two decades later, a building boom and citywide gentrification have transformed the area into a sanitised commercial playground, but this model can give you a window back in time to the city's Nineties nadir.
