Pal #061, Kitsun

We have Amaterasu at home. Sample pictures are all cherry-picked raw gens to demonstrate the model's capabilities in pure text2image. No inpainting or upscaling was done.

Prompting

Weight: 0.8 to 1.0. It can definitely mess with art styles. Too many steps over too few inputs.

Trigger words: kitsun, feral and kitsun, anthro

Might also need: wolf, blue fire, gold anklet

Also does taurs!

Reminder Tags

In harder art styles, or more complex situations, the model might forget certain stuff. I've compiled a list of the tags you can use to guide it back to the light of the kitsun.

  • blue fire, blue fire around neck, blue fire around head, blue fire aura - The first thing it forgets is that cool fire halo. Using one of these helps a lot. Which one works best might depend on the pose and angle.

  • gold anklet - Puts those gold bands back on the legs, somewhere around the right spot. The training data was pretty inconsistent about where they went.

  • gold cheek spikes - It usually gets these, but if it doesn't, this should do the trick.

  • white fur - Certain especially aggressive biases from models or artists can make it forget that kitsun are white.

  • yellow eyes - Not that it forgets the eye color, but if you specify, the eyes can come out a lot cleaner. I think that's a LoRA thing, or maybe just an AI thing.

  • wolf or fox - I swear this helps when the legs start going weird. Maybe it didn't quite learn that the feral kitsun is a standard quadruped. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Other Useful Tags

  • clothed feral - Helps when you want to play dress up with the feral ones.

Quality Indicators

Obviously, these are just my subjective ratings. But this is my experience so far.

★★★★☆ Character Likeness

It's not perfect. It really did not understand the fire ring. It does tend to get the face markings right, or close. The exact placement of the gold bands on the legs is inconsistent, as are the tufts on the legs. The butt wings usually show up about right. Overall, close enough to fix with a few inpaints, and sometimes gets it all correct in one shot.

★★★★☆ Flexibility

It doesn't fight me on poses, and they can make silly faces. Very silly faces. It might be my imagination, but I feel like they're more expressive than normal characters. It's fully capable of dressing them up, even the ferals. It does struggle on some more unusual angles, and gets pretty confused if you turn one upside-down, so no perfect score here.

★★★☆☆ Style Compatibility

The most in-your-face elements of an artist's style still come through, toony artists are still toony and so on, but the more subtle touches can get lost. It's not too bad at 0.9 weight.

★★★★★ Other Checkpoints

It really likes NoobAI vpred 1.0. EPS is fine too. (It better be, it's what I trained it on!) It transitions decently to realistic models like Willy's Noob Realism.

★★★☆☆ Other Characters

It's not an every time thing, but kitsun traits do show up on other species. Around 1 in 4 times in my testing, when the character has other kitsun-like traits, like white foxes. Maybe 3/5 is a little harsh, but this is a point of annoyance for me.

★★★★☆ Sanity

Might have degraded the model's anatomy some. It usually remembers that it's supposed to be creating a character, and not a weird blob, and doesn't have a tendency to add weird crap. I haven't seen any particular fixations from the training data come up.

Training Info

Base model: NoobAI-XL EPS 1.0

Concept data: 10 human-created images with various styles and aesthetics (5/10 porn, 2/10 anthro)

Regularization data: 100 AI-generated images from NoobAI-XL V-Pred 1.0 with the same captions as the concept data, without "kitsun", with randomized aspect ratios and quality tags

Balance: 1 regularization image per 1 concept image, same loss weight

Total Steps: 4000

Notes: I started out throwing just about every (human-made) picture I could find at it, but had to discard 3. I'm always wary of training AI on AI, but I'm going to have to create some really good synthetic data if I want a better LoRA for this one.

Things Nobody Asked (Yet)

What's with the tea?

Because kitsun keep everything around them at the perfect temperature. It just makes sense that they'd be a central part of any Palpagos-style tea party.

No sex in the sample images?

It's a pal LoRA, not a sex LoRA! But there are no laws against the pals. It absolutely can make sex scenes.

Is it a wolf or a fox?

Any answer that doesn't allow them to cosplay as Amaterasu is obviously wrong, so I'm going with wolf.
