Shinobu Miyake is Ataru's childhood friend and classmate. At the start of the series, she appears to be Ataru's girlfriend, but Lum's entrance strains their connection. Shinobu claims that if Ataru wins the tag game, she will marry him, which drives Ataru to win, but his victory cry causes a misunderstanding in which Lum agrees to marry him. Shinobu is a tidy, charming, and modest young lady. Despite her feminine qualities, she frequently demonstrates superhuman strength, being able to easily hurl school desks or any other large/heavy object as needed; however, this strength is only seen when she is angry with Lum or Ataru.
"Shinobu Early" is based on her early series design, mostly with her ahoge, or cowlick. Later in the series, she has fuller hair, lacks the ahoge, and rounder head, hence the "Shinobu Later" model.
