VHS-Magica | A Retro Anime Dreamscape

This is VHS-Magica, a merge I've been working on to try and capture that special feeling of 80s and 90s high-budget anime—think of a pristine OVA tape you'd find at a specialty shop.

My goal wasn't to create the "best" model, but rather a fun and flexible tool that enjoys a specific aesthetic. I find it creates images with a lovely cel-shaded feel, sharp lines, and really vibrant, punchy colors, as you can see from the example image.

It's my take on that "modern retro" style. As a curious take, I feel like it produces images just like those stylish anime pins everyone shares on Pinterest, haha. I hope you have as much fun with it as I do!

I've found this model to be quite responsive and flexible, but here are the settings I've had the most success with:

  • CFG Scale: 3.5 (Seems to be a nice sweet spot)

  • Steps: 25 - 38

  • Sampler: Res_multistep - Beta (My preferred sampler for this one)

🎨 Notes on Use

  • It seems to respond well to prompts, so you can guide the details pretty effectively.

  • Great for character portraits, fantasy scenes, or anything needing that "magical" 90s anime vibe.
