Juanjo Guarnido is a Spanish comic book artist born in 1967 in Granada, renowned for his exceptional draftsmanship and cinematic visual storytelling. Before entering comics, he worked as an animator at Disney Studios on films like Tarzan and Lilo & Stitch. Guarnido achieved international acclaim with Blacksad (2000-present), a noir detective series featuring anthropomorphic animals, co-created with writer Juan Díaz Canales. His meticulously detailed watercolor artwork combines realistic anatomy, expressive character acting, and atmospheric lighting, capturing 1950s America with stunning authenticity. Guarnido's work exemplifies European bande dessinée sophistication, blending Disney animation influence with mature storytelling. Blacksad has won numerous awards including multiple Eisner Awards, establishing Guarnido as one of contemporary comics' most accomplished visual artists.
