Axel Sauerwald

Axel Sauerwald is a German concept artist and illustrator known for his work in fantasy and role-playing game universes.

He began his career at Atomhawk Design Ltd in 2018 and transitioned to freelance work in 2020. Since then, he has collaborated with major studios such as Blizzard Activision, Wizards of the Coast, and Aaron Sims Creative. His illustrations have appeared in publications like Clarkesworld Magazine, 3DTotal, and Spectrum 27.

Sauerwald is also active in the European tabletop RPG scene, contributing artwork to titles like The Dark Eye, Legend of the Five Rings, and Rokugan, often through publishers like Ulisses Spiele and Fantasy Flight Games. He is currently based in Trier, near the Moselle region of Germany.
