What It Does

This LoRA serves two effects: for checkpoints that can already handle painterly style, it has a certain influence of how this is displayed. Especially it influences the texture of the canvas and background and how the brush strokes are visible. It has been trained based on fantasy and dark fantasy images, which is a genre that combines extremely well with this style.

For checkpoints that are not well known to support painterly styles at all, it adds this as a feature. The texture of the canvas stays very subtle with these, but the painterly style itself works pretty well.

I made very good experiences with Juggernaut XL, the illustrious-based Cyberrealistic checkpoints, WaiSnackMix 1.1, Crystal Clear Lightning (even with DMD2 enabled) and a couple of others I already experimented with. Inspect the sample gallery to see the effects in action. The ZIT version is naturally meant to be used with Z Imge Turbo based checkpoints.

Trigger Word

Want to fully unleash the unmistakable painterly identity of this LoRA? Simply include ED_Painterly in your prompt. While the LoRA works beautifully without it, using the trigger word delivers a stronger and more consistent stylistic signature.

Model Compatibility

This LoRA pairs perfectly with ZIT and SDXL Base and any ZIT/SDXL-compatible checkpoint, so even Illustrious works very decent. Check the gallery to see that it as well works great with Illustrious or some SDXL/Pony mix checkpoints. Feel free to combine it with different models to achieve exactly the visual tone, contrast, or rendering style you desire.

Important notice: Z Image Base is not officially supported by the ZIT version!

Adjust the LoRA weight between 0.5 and 1.5, depending on how prominent you want the painterly brushwork to appear:

  • 0.5–0.8 → subtle influence, softer brushwork

  • 0.8–1.2 → balanced and harmonious – ideal for most scenes

  • 1.2–1.5 → strong painterly presence with pronounced, expressive strokes

The ZIT version is generally a little bit stronger than the SDXL/Illustrious version.

Credits: I got this LoRA from @jarod2212 as part of the reward for his most recent bounty, including the rights to publish it under my name. Pay him a visit and leave some feedback, his LoRAs are extraordinary! Afterwards, I commissioned him to create the additional ZIT version as well.

He as well provided the sample images for the ZIT version, because I couldn't generate some on my own locally before the LoRA version went live! All praise for these ZIT based samples goes to him!
