Civitai Artist Discovery

Find the artists the feed moves past.

Civitai Artist Discovery is a free Windows app that reorganizes Civitai around creators instead of individual images and uses your own reaction history to surface artists you're likely to enjoy.

No cloud account. No tracking. Your galleries and taste analysis stay on your computer.

Why I built it

Civitai moves incredibly fast, and popularity compounds quickly.

Across one full day captured by Artist Discovery — 26,792 images from 3,390 creators — the top 1% of creators received 32% of all reactions, while 706 creators received none at all.

There is incredible work buried in that long tail.

Artist Discovery groups a day by creator instead of presenting thousands of individual images. Every artist gets one card, containing their work from that period.

Then you decide how those artists should be surfaced.

Discover a day your way

The default For you view uses artwork you've reacted to on Civitai to determine which creators appear first. Matching cards show the tags responsible for the recommendation, so the ranking isn't a black box.

There are four other ways to explore the same day:

Popular — engagement-based, but dampened so huge accounts don't completely dominate.

New to you — creators you've never followed or reacted to.

Followed first — your own work, followed creators, artists you've reacted to, then everyone else.

Emerging first — unfollowed creators with fewer than 1,000 followers.

The gallery doesn't change. You're simply looking at the same artists through different lenses.

One card. One artist. Their whole day.

Each card represents one creator. Flip through their images without leaving the gallery, view image details and prompts, react, follow the creator, or jump directly to Civitai.

Artist Discovery also remembers who you've explored. When you return to a day, artists you've already viewed move behind the ones you haven't.

You can filter by generation model and browse Morning, Evening, or combined All Day archives.

My Discovery

The second half of the app asks a different question:

What does your Civitai reaction history actually say about your taste?

My Discovery analyzes your reactions locally and shows your most-reacted-to creators, reaction mix, common tags, and the characteristics that distinguish your taste from Civitai overall.

Worth following

Artist Discovery finds creators whose work you've reacted to five or more times without following them.

Those artists also receive a small ♥ in daily galleries, making accidental favorites harder to miss.

Creators you might like

Alpha v2 can search for creators you've never followed or reacted to whose recent work matches the tags most distinctive to your taste.

Every suggestion tells you why it appeared and is ranked by the strength of those matches — not by the creator's popularity.

Because finding someone you already know is recommendation.

Finding someone you didn't know existed is discovery.

Finding your actual taste

Raw tag counts can be misleading. Tags like woman, solo, and looking at viewer are so common that reacting to them doesn't necessarily say much about your individual taste.

Artist Discovery therefore also calculates distinctive tags, discounting each tag based on how common it is across a Civitai comparison sample.

The result is a better picture of what actually separates your taste from everyone else's.

Private by design

Artist Discovery runs locally on your Windows PC and opens its interface in your browser.

Your galleries, reaction analysis, discovery history, and preferences stay on your computer. Civitai authorization is encrypted using Windows DPAPI and never reaches the browser interface.

Disconnecting revokes the Civitai authorization and removes your account-derived analysis while keeping archived galleries.

The app cannot publish posts or comments, vote, or spend Buzz.

Before you install

Alpha v2 is unsigned.

Windows SmartScreen will display Windows protected your PC. Choose More info → Run anyway if you trust the download. Some antivirus products may also object to unsigned applications.

Current Alpha v2 limits

Artist Discovery is Windows only and currently supports the general-audience civitai.com PG/PG-13 feed. Mature/X browsing through civitai.red isn't supported.

Checkpoint and LoRA analysis isn't implemented yet.

Building a new day takes time because Civitai exposes a maximum of 200 images per request against roughly 27,000 listings per day. Artist Discovery therefore builds Morning and Evening as separate 12-hour blocks. Once collected, galleries reopen locally without another full scan.

Creator suggestions improve as the app builds its local comparison sample, so recommendations immediately after the first sync will be the least informed.

Help me test Alpha v2

This is still an alpha, and testing against accounts and machines other than mine is incredibly valuable.

I'm especially interested in whether authorization works cleanly for new users, day boundaries behave across timezones, interrupted collections resume reliably, and — most importantly — whether Artist Discovery actually finds artists you like.

If something breaks, include your Windows version, timezone, what you were doing, and whether social actions were enabled.

And if Artist Discovery surfaces someone whose work you never would have found otherwise?

I'd really like to hear about that too.
