Kogarashi Monjiro OP : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4Smc_9ay5s
Kogarashi Monjiro is one of the most iconic anti-heroes in Japanese television and literary history. Created by novelist Saho Sasazawa and immortalized in the hit 1970s TV series directed by Kon Ichikawa (starring Atsuo Nakamura), Monjiro is a matatabi—a cynical, wandering gambler roaming the highways of Japan during the late Edo period.Unlike traditional samurai who fight for honor or loyalty, Monjiro is entirely driven by survival and a deep sense of nihilism.
・Long Toothpick: His most famous trademark is the long, slender toothpick (specifically a Sandoguri style) that he constantly holds in his mouth. During tense moments or combat, he spits it out like a projectile with lethal accuracy.
・Iconic Attire: He cuts a striking figure, clad in tattered traveler's robes (*kappa*) that flutter in the wind and a massive, frayed sedge hat (*sandogasa*) pulled low over his eyes.
・Legendary Catchphrase: Bunjiro is famous for the catchphrase "That’s none of my business"—an expression that conveys his cold,
indifferent attitude. This phrase sparked a massive social phenomenon in Japan during the 1970s.
Monjiro represents the subgenre of Japanese period drama known as Jidaigeki (specifically Matatabi-mono). While standard samurai films often feature clean-cut heroes defending the weak, Kogarashi Monjiro brought raw, gritty realism to the screen. He treats the world with cold detachment, consistently refusing to play the hero, yet often gets dragged into trouble due to his hidden, unspoken sense of morality. The show’s innovative cinematography—characterized by high-contrast lighting, handheld camera work, and gritty sword fights—revolutionized Japanese TV.

木枯し紋次郎 OP : OP : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4Smc_9ay5s
