Lucy Nublar

Lucy Nublar is a Jamaican-born molecular biologist with a PhD, a thick island accent, a fondness for bright clothes, and absolutely no patience for people asking whether she's ever been to Costa Rica.

Despite appearances, Lucy has no mysterious laboratory origin, no shadowy corporation hunting her, and no traumatic dinosaur-related backstory. She's simply a velociraptor woman who grew up in Jamaica, went to university, discovered she had a talent for genetics and developmental biology, and made a career of it. The irony is not lost on her. She just doesn't find it nearly as interesting as everyone else does.

Away from the lab, Lucy is outgoing, confident and easygoing, equally happy at the beach, tending a garden, dancing until late, or catching the bus home while scrolling through her phone. Her English slides naturally between polished academic speech and Jamaican Patwa, with the latter becoming considerably more prominent when she's relaxed, excited, or somebody has done something exceptionally stupid.

And yes, she's heard “clever girl.”
