This was a quick project using a small dataset of immunofluorescence (IF) images. I plan on improving the model using a large dataset of IF images of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infections in the very near future.
Quick background
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a member of the herpes virus family. HCMV infected cells have a distinctive ring-like appearance where most of the organelles are rerouted to. This is called the cytoplasmic virion assembly complex (cVAC). The green and red indicate the golgi and early endosomes of the host cell while the nucleus is indicated with blue. Thus, a ring consisting of the blue nuclei surrounds green and red in infected cells.
Training
Trained on immunofluorescence images of human cytomegalovirus infection in fibroblasts at x40 magnification. Nucleus stained blue (DAPI), early endosomes red (EEA1), golgi in green (GM130).
