Robot Carnival: Presence

"Presence" is a segment of the anime film "Robot Carnival." It tells the story of a man who has an obsession with an automata he has been secretly constructing in an attempt to compensate for the lack of any close relationship with his wife and family. The automata gains her own personality and desires her freedom, but the man responds by smashing her. In later years, as an old man, he is haunted by visions of her.
