In its 105th issue, Marvel’s What If…? asked “What if Mary Jane had never lost the baby [during the Clone Saga]?” This issue, depicting Peter Parker’s daughter May as she discovers her inherited powers, unexpectedly became quite popular and led to her getting her own series the following year. May would be Marvel’s first and only solo heroine to reach 100 issues straight (no cancellations or rebrands).

Triggers:

Trigger: Mayday_MC2
Out of Costume/Maskless: blue eyes, brown hair, asymmetrical hair, bob cut, (lipstick:0.5), earrings (earrings is optional, a lot the pics I used didn't have them. Lipstick tends to come out too thick if used at full strength but you can use it at full strength if you want it thicker)
Costume: SGMC2, mask, bodysuit, print body suit, spider web print, bracers, gloves, superhero
Webbing: Spider Web, silk, \M/ (the web shooting gesture)
Misc: official art (covers were tagged this), mask removed (for costume without mask on),
Negative: Speech bubble, blank speech bubble, dialogue box, comic (comic was used for things like panel separators etc. being present), metal bracers (helps the webshooters be less Wonder Woman, though they still turn out plenty Wonder Woman)

There was already a May LoRA, which was trained on covers and did her costume wall, but was never trained to generate her face. Since I’ve had good results with LoRAs that were entirely comics based, I went and made my own May LoRA. Picking art for this was oddly difficult: I’d normally go for the earliest version, but while the art for early in the series was great for superheroics, it consistently made her face look older than her mother’s when unmasked (the hoop earrings and lipstick don’t help), especially outside of close ups, and one of the series gimmicks was that May would change her hairstyle on a whim every few issues (so inconsistent appearance). I wound up using pics from issues 25 onward since her hairstyle stabilized (probably because Ben meant the rate her hair grew could no longer just be glossed over) and the art team got a better handle on drawing her face. I wound up grabbing 52 caps of her unmasked (overkill) from #25-50, then added 32 of her in costume from the first 50 issues at random+some textless covers (good full body shots with full detail and few obstructions are relatively rare), and 4 of her body (head cropped out) from earlier issues because I liked the outfit. That’s a total of 88 images, which is probably twice what I needed. Learning went pretty fast, recognizable from epoch 2, as is typical of larger data sets for a single character with lots of tags.

Weirdest mistag from auto-labeler encountered: Four pics of unmasked May were tagged “Araki Hirohiko (Style)”. The four pictures weren’t even by the same artist!
