wanted an image of a 'Feuerzangenbowle,' but I struggled to create an effective prompt.

The results ranged from glowing tools to scenes resembling a burning Rio de Janeiro.

To address this, I decided to train a LoRA.

Here is the outcome.

What You'll Need

Ingredients:

  • 2 liters (67 oz) of dry red wine

  • 1 orange (sliced)

  • 1 lemon (sliced)

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 3-5 cloves

  • 150-200g (5-7 oz) of sugar loaf (or sugar cubes shaped into a mound)

  • 250ml (8 oz) of rum (at least 54% alcohol; higher proof works better for ignition)

Equipment:

  • A punch bowl or pot (preferably heat-resistant and open-top)

  • A Feuerzangenbowle tongs or a metal grid (to hold the sugar loaf)

  • Long matches or a lighter

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Punch Base:

In a heat-resistant pot or punch bowl, pour the red wine.

Add the orange and lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.

Gently warm the mixture on the stove or over a burner. Avoid boiling; you want it to be hot but not simmering.

2. Set Up the Sugar Loaf:

Place the sugar loaf (or mound of sugar cubes) on the special Feuerzangenbowle tongs or a metal grid that fits over the bowl.

3. Soak the Sugar in Rum:

Slowly pour some of the rum over the sugar until it is thoroughly soaked but not dissolving.

4. Ignite the Sugar:

Using a long match or lighter, carefully ignite the rum-soaked sugar. The flames will caramelize the sugar, which will drip into the wine mixture below.

5. Add More Rum as Needed:

As the flames die down, you can carefully pour additional rum (little by little) over the sugar to keep the flames going until all the sugar is melted into the wine.

6. Serve and Enjoy:

Stir the mixture to combine the caramelized sugar with the spiced wine. Serve hot in heatproof glasses or mugs.

Tips:

Safety First: Always prepare Feuerzangenbowle in a safe area, away from flammable materials.

Alcohol Choice: Use a high-proof rum for best results, as lower-proof alcohol may not ignite.

Optional Additions: Some recipes include star anise, cardamom, or even a splash of orange juice for extra flavor.

Enjoy this festive and theatrical drink with friends—it’s perfect for winter gatherings!
