Realism_Illustrious_By_Stable_Yogi Reviews
I’ve tested all versions of this model. The earlier versions had issues with bad faces and other inconsistencies, but you did a great job addressing those in later releases. From my personal testing, v2.2 is the best in this series. v2.5 is still a solid model, but it seems to have lost some of the prompt adherence that makes Illustrious special. That said, v2.5 is still good—I just personally prefer v2.2.
When comparing v2.2 to something like WAI v11, which is the most popular anime/animated version of Illustrious on Civitai, I found them to be extremely similar. If you use the same seed, v2.2 essentially produces a realistic version of that image. The real magic of v2.2 is that it maintains Illustrious’s prompt adherence, character knowledge, pose accuracy, and all its unique strengths while adding realism on top of that.
Some of this was lost in v2.5, but it remains a good model. However, v3 seems to have almost completely lost what made v2.2 special. It’s a realistic model, but it struggles with character knowledge, prompt adherence, and the signature qualities of Illustrious. v2.2, on the other hand, can generate adherent results right out of the box without needing complex prompts. I suspect v3 might be overtrained.
That said, v2.2 is an excellent model, and I appreciate the work that went into it!
I think a great way to test v2.2, v2.5, and v3—or even when developing future Illustrious models—would be to include characters that are known to be in Illustrious’s knowledge base in your sample gallery or testing process. It could be helpful to prompt them in unique poses or dynamic positions to really see how well each version handles prompt adherence.
Or you can just test the models prompt adherence by comparing it to the output from a model like WAI.
If you just use general prompts—like “a woman sitting at the beach”—you might see an increase in realism but might not notice the loss of prompt adherence between the models, since the prompt isn’t really pushing Illustrious’s strengths. But by using more complex prompts, you’d get a better idea of how well each version maintains character accuracy, pose knowledge, and overall adherence.
Just a suggestion! I really appreciate the work you’ve put into these models, and v2.2 especially stands out as something special. 😊

I totally understand that balancing multiple priorities—like prompt adherence (including character knowledge, poses, etc.) and realism—while also improving things like facial and ethnic diversity is a real challenge. It’s not easy to get everything working together seamlessly, and I really appreciate the effort you’ve put into making it all come together. Thanks for all your hard work!
