Cynefin - Helmi

Loading Images

A music video for the Track Helmi by the welsh speaking musician Cynefin, based on an old poem by Evan Jones.

Helmi being the welsh word for Corn Rick, a Helmi used to be the primary way that welsh farmers used to store their corn over winter. The poem itself tells a tale of Autumn rolling in over the Welsh mountains, and starting to tear the leaves from the trees, and whilst closing in on Evans farm, the surrounding army of Helmi defend the farm, and fight back the bad weather.

The Helmi themselves were the lead singer of the band, Owen, in a suit made of real oats and all the shots were acted out in front of a green screen. Utilising 'traditional' techniques such as green screen and particle simulations, comps were then created in After Effects, and any particle simulations were created in Trapcode.

These comps were then sent through 2 vid2vid workflows in comfyUI, the first an Animatediff workflow to remove any unwanted elements from the comps I'd created and give them an animated feel. Then through a second HotshotXL unsampling workflow to further cement the look and feel of an impressionist painting.

Finally the entire piece was edited and graded in Da Vinci Resolve.
