Tarot cards need a back too

Loading Images

For my ongoing tarot card art project, I'm wondering, what should the back of the card look like?

So here's a quick first draft.

The design of the card that the character on the cover image of the essay was holding looked intriguing, so I decided to see if it was possible to create a full-resolution version from it.

Having some text at the bottom is an intriguing possibility, but I haven't named the deck yet, so the text remains a placeholder for now. If I decide to put text there in the final version, I'll inpaint that part with Flux Dev.

Notes

WAI-NSFW-illustrious-SDXL v13.0, with inpainting.

Captured the mini-sized card back (86 × 122 pixels) from the essay cover image, latent-upscaled (forcing the aspect ratio to 3:2), then inpainted.

The stars on both sides of the star at the top center were retouched in GIMP, to change their color from black to golden. Worst photoshop job ever, then inpaint.

The inpainting is hardly completely done yet - I wouldn't call this a final product - but as a first sketch, it'll do. One important thing that needs to be fixed is the exaggerated bloom effect at the borders. This effect generally looks good in an anime illustration, creating an impression of HDR lighting, but not on the back of a card, which looks better with well-defined edges.

I like the card design the AI came up with. it looks appropriately mysterious and magical, as well as something that could appear in a tabletop game.
