Tarot cards: Justice

Rosemary (OC) as Lady Justice.

Part of my ongoing tarot card art project.

Notes

WAI-NSFW-illustrious-SDXL v13.0.

The model doesn't know what scales are (except as the thing on the skin of dragons and such), so this one was tricky.

Roughly:

  • Render her holding a lantern. This yields the desired pose, with her hand holding something that is hanging down.

  • Regenerate the whole background in inpainting.

  • Add the halo of sun rays in inpainting.

  • Remove a spurious angel halo in inpainting.

  • Erase the lantern in inpainting. Now everything looks almost right, except still without the scales.

  • Do a lot of detailing and polishing as usual.

  • Download a clipart image (for non-commercial use) for the iconic scales of justice.

  • Scale and position the clipart in GIMP.

  • Add a layer mask, mask away the parts that will be behind her hand.

  • Export back to Forge.

  • Iterate the scales in inpainting, at 0.4 denoise, with prompt "woman in white robe holding golden weighing scales, newest, masterpiece, best quality", until the scales look golden. (I.e. render, send result back to inpainting, repeat.) This keeps the shape, but adds shading.

  • Inpaint the face.

  • Sketch the blindfold to go over her hair instead of under it.

  • Finalize the face, inpainting the seams and details, and fixing stray hair.

I'm still not completely satisfied, but this will do for now.

EDIT:

  • After thinking for a while, notice that the scales don't look quite right. Look again at the reference material. Notice that Lady Justice's scales usually have some kind of handhold.

  • Make a second version.

Much better, at least to my eye.
