Karras vs Karras Exponential (Simple KES)
With this set, we look at simple prompts face portraits to see how they compare (upscaled images) vs each other.
Grids were created using a custom grid tool that I created. It will eventually either land on my github or be published as a tool in a larger project I'm working on sometime in the future.

I ran a comparison between the standard Karras scheduler and my custom Simple Karras Exponential Scheduler (Simple KES). The key difference is in the visual feel and texture: Karras produces sharper, more photorealistic results with crisp eye detail, well-defined hair strands, and higher contrast in lighting. It’s great when you want maximum detail and realistic skin texture.
Simple KES, on the other hand, blends a Karras start with an exponential decay, creating a smoother, softer look. The images lean slightly more toward an anime-inspired or semi-stylized feel, with larger, rounder eyes and more youthful, gentle features. Skin and hair appear more blended, with less emphasis on fine detail but a pleasing, diffused aesthetic.
Overall, Karras is ideal for sharp, high-detail outputs, while Simple KES excels if you’re aiming for a softer, more approachable style with subtle painterly qualities. Both have unique strengths, and the choice depends on whether you’re chasing realism or a smoother, stylized vibe.
