Appearance:
She presents herself as a mixed species with a human mother and a chameleon anthro father, and having inherited strong traits from her father's side.
In truth, she is a shapeshifter who doesn't remember her original form, and can appear almost anything that is of a roughly similar build. She always keeps her visual signature, green antennae and rainbow eyes, and is unable to hide them by shapeshifting, so she has to rely on hats and sunglasses if she wishes to hide those.
She chooses to usually appear as chameleon mixed species, because she feels kinship with chameleons (hiding, blending in). She fears her past hides something unnatural and clings to this chameleon identity as an anchor for her sense of self.
Role:
While the big heroes are fighting doomsday machines in space, she focuses on cracks in the pavement. She knows being a Hero "doesn't pay money", but she feels compelled to do something for the little guys around her. Her powers aren't anything grandiose either, she can just change her shape, so she started stealing from the corrupt wealthy, mad scientists, and criminal syndicates.
She uses the money to fund shelters, soup kitchens, and local charities that support people under hard times.
Her modus operandi is to attend high society events as a "mystery socialite", lift keycards to infiltrate closed parts of the venue, and then disappear looking completely different.
Personality:
She plays the role of a confident and alluring fashionista, using her unique looks to charm and distract. In truth, she quite down to earth and prefers the familiar streets and friendly faces of everyday life, mostly because she is desperate to ground herself to something real and genuine.
She is deeply insecure about her lack of "true" face, and terrified of the possibility that there is something "non-natural" in her origins. This drives her to maintain her mixed human/chameleon cover at all cost, and the prejudice against artificial beings and aliens causes her anxiety.
Powers:
Iris is able to assume any shape with roughly similar build in regards to mass or volume. Her transformation is complete in regards to all physical features, as long as she has an understanding what she is transforming into. In theory, she could transform parts of her body into weapons or shields, but she's afraid to do so due to how clearly it would mark her as having a superpower. She also doesn't really have combat experience.
She does have some basic physiological needs, such as the need to breathe and intake nutrition, so she has to have most of her internal organs in place no matter the shape. She is able to replicate all physiological functions of her chosen shape, so she could in theory draw energy from the ground with roots. That just wouldn't be enough to realistically sustain her. She would also be able to procreate as either biological sex if she so wishes at some point, but her uncertain past makes her afraid of getting truly close to anyone.
