Six months ago, I joined Civitai.
(This made a lot of people very unhappy and has widely been regarded as a bad move.)
While it was initially because I wanted to get past the limitations Dall-E 3 had, it's ended being quite the grand journey. From the continuing evolution of SDXL to the release of FLUX/LoRa tools, and so much else, itβs been a whirlwindβand I thought I'd share some highlights and a preview of what's to come!
Some Sweet Stats
Accrued 4,000+ followers here on Civit (until the next [deleted] user purge takes my bot bros away)
Posted over 180 models, with over 33K model downloads and 8,500 model likes
Had two contest-winning models:
Textacular Contest: no name product producer [flux]
Halloween Contest: Gravestone Engraver [FLUX]
Was a 3x guest on Civitai Creator Sessions with Tyler/jboogx_creative:
What's Next?
You can expect more creative/fun FLUX models from me soon, with new concepts and styles in the hopper, along with holiday-themed LoRas just waiting on the inevitable Christmas contest.
KFT Furropean Extreme v2 is in the plans, along with further refinements/better merging with KFT Fur Elise.
If Civit rolls out the pay-2-checkpoint system (where users can bid with buzz on which checkpoints are available onsite), you can expect that I'll work to fund Fur Elise for onsite generation.
I have started, and will continue porting some of my FLUX models over to glif, as the platform has some cool features in the backend like LLM integration and potential for complex flows to enhance the models I've trained.
Right now they're in that "everything is free" user acquisition phase, so it's potentially worth signing up just to play around with 20 free generations per day.
FLUX/PDXL will still be my models of choice for the time being, while curiously watching how IllustriousXL/NoobAI evolve as well as SD3.5, FLUX 1.1, and new video models.
My model work/partner streams got more attention than I expected, including some corporate partnership opportunities that I will be focusing more time towards. More to come on this later.
All my models here on Civit will continue to be free, and I have no plans for a Patreon/Kofi/Onlyfans or any Early Access models.
Thanks to everyone who's been part of this ongoing journey, whether it be from trying out my models and providing feedback, engaging in good banter / discussions, or even just being along for the ride giving reactions to some of the crazy stuff I've posted.
Closing Thoughts
Civit is a great platform with an awesome/fast-growing community, a challenging history to contend with, and some growing pains while it evolves. While the staff team is small in size, they're passionate and engaged, which is no small feat considering the platform growth the site has had in 2024.
With that growth comes challenges, including a bit of an identity crisis in the move from being "The den of AI weirdness" (wording still on the Civit store page) to a more inclusive platform. This is much easier for new platforms, as they don't have the demands of existing userbases to contend with, and likely are in the pre-monetization phase where they're focused on offering everything for free to establish a userbase.
Along with this growth came new models like FLUX / SD3.5 (and now Haiper / Mochi) with considerably higher generation costs (4-8 cents plus each image, 7-60 cents per video), which is a hard sell for a userbase that's used to paying one tenth of that for SDXL / Pony generations. Hopefully Flux Dev 1.1 and further optimizations can help bring the generation price down to entice more users to generating onsite.
It's a pretty sweet time to be part of all this, with exponential growth in platforms/communities, new models and refinements seemingly every few weeks, and growing interest from new players.
Thanks again to you all. It's been a lot of fun here and I look forward to everything that's to come in the next six months and beyond. I'll trail this post off with some links to helpful resources.
