Basil Wolverton was an 20th century American cartoonist and illustrator known for his intricately detailed grotesques of bizarre or misshapen people. Wolverton was described as "Producer of Preposterous Pictures of Peculiar People who Prowl this Perplexing Planet." His many publishers included Marvel Comics and Mad magazine. (see Wikipedia article here)
His style was the inspiration of the "gross up" - highly detailed and grotesque close up frames incorporated into traditional animation. This technique has been made famous in shows like Ren and Stimpy and Spongebob Squarepants.
This LORA has been trained on the celebrity portraits that Wolverton produced during the later stage of his career, with an additional conceptual category for his grotesque depictions in portrait form. The most famous of these includes the "Lena the Hyena" and the "Girl of the Month" cover for Mad Magazine #11.
