In the manga, Hikaru lives in Tokyo with her three siblings and their dog. Hikaru's father is away on a pilgrimage. They have a family dojo where they practice kendo, a martial art in which Hikaru is very good. The young woman attends a local school and is in eighth grade, where she has a group of friends who consider her kind, if somewhat childish.
Hikaru and her classmates visited Tokyo Tower as part of a school trip. While the girls complained about how boring the trip was, Hikaru happily looked at the city through a telescope. When her telescope ran out, Hikaru searched his pockets for extra money, but found none. A girl with glasses, a student from a prestigious school, approached her and gave her some change so she could continue having fun, loving her enthusiasm. Hikaru was captivated by such a generous attitude and ran to thank her, but found herself trapped in the middle of a group of girls from another school. Suddenly, a very bright light appeared, and in the glow, Hikaru saw a girl pleading, "Save Zephyr, Magical Warriors... I summon you!" Then Hikaru, the girl with glasses, and one of the girls from the other school were transported to the magical world of Zephyr.
