Unlike many other monsters that are aliens or prehistoric creatures, Kanegon was originally a greedy young boy named Kane-o. He was obsessed with collecting coins and saving money. One day, he found a mysterious vibrating cocoon that promised to fulfill his wish for wealth. After being pulled into the cocoon, he transformed into the monster Kanegon.
