Update v1.1: Added __ea/adjective__, which has a bunch of adjectives that modify appearance, and also made a few fixes and tweaks to the rest of the wildcards. See v1.0 for comprehensive charts of genres and aesthetic images.

These are aesthetics wildcards for SDXL that I've actually tested and are known to do something. Please leave a comment if you have additional suggestions for things to add (preferably with links to example images).

All example images use the same seed (42) and the same seven prompts.

For a completely random aesthetic, just use __ea/any__ .

For more specific things, replace "any" with:

  • genre (fictional book and movie genres)

  • video_game (specific video games)

  • anime (styles of different specific anime shows)

  • western_style (styles of western studios and specific cartoons)

  • architecture (architectural styles)

  • eras (time periods)

  • aesthetic (misc. aesthetics)

Usage tips:

I find that, at least in Envy Starlight (where I tested them) you can weight them up to 2.5 or 3, although YMMV depending on your checkpoint. They should work with most standard SDXL models (I haven't checked Pony or 1.5).

The shorter and less descriptive your prompt, the more effect the aesthetic will have, which is why I kept my sample prompts simple. If you have a long prompt, adjust the weight of the aesthetic accordingly. Use multiple aesthetic wildcards for interesting combinations.
